LAPAROSCOPIC ORCHIOPEXY
Laparoscopic Orchiopexy is the treatment of choice in a child with undescended testes where the testis is not palpable in the inguinal region. Laparoscopic Orchiopexy is performed in a single or staged procedure depending on the location of the testes in the abdomen and the length of blood vessels or vas deference. 3 small incisions are made as shown in the figure.
Following which the testes are located & the decision is taken as to a single or a 2 stage procedure is to be performed if it is believed to be difficult to pull the testis to the scrotum without any tension on the vessels or vas deference, there the blood vessels are using diathermy and the testis is allowed to hang over the vas deference.6 months later the 2nd stage procedure is performed and testis is pulled to the scrotum. It is advisable to perform the procedure at the age of 6 months. in a well performance procedure, the child lives a normal life thereafter.
