TONGUE-TIE
The surgery should be considered at around 8-10 months of age, preferably before the child learns to speak.
There would be slurring of speech that would take time to get corrected. So before the child develops, the condition should be corrected.
Generally, the surgery is performed using a bipolar cautery where the frenulum is cauterized (burnt) using a controlled current. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and lasts for 5 minutes.
The child can be fed immediately after the surgery. However, 2 hours gap is advisable, to reduce the risks of vomiting due to anesthesia.
Excellent prognosis. Would cost around Rs. 12000 – 20000 depending on various factors.
